AI chat products tend to feel like tools - transactional, forgettable, and cold. Meganova Chat needed to feel like something else entirely: a space where conversations have weight, characters feel distinct, and users want to come back not because they need something, but because they're genuinely engaged.
The design challenge was building an interface that disappears into the experience - where the UI never reminds you you're talking to a machine.
The design started from the conversation itself. Every decision - layout, typography, spacing, color - was made in service of making the chat feel natural and continuous rather than structured and mechanical.
Character discovery was designed to feel like browsing rather than searching: visual-first, personality-forward, with enough variety to make exploration feel rewarding. The creation flow for custom characters was kept flexible but guided - enough structure to help users build something coherent, enough freedom to make it feel like theirs.
Model flexibility was surfaced as a setting rather than a feature - present when needed, invisible when not. The leaderboard and profile systems were built to reward engagement and creative quality, giving the platform a community layer without it overwhelming the core experience.
Visual direction: dark, intimate, cinematic. The interface steps back so the characters and stories can step forward.
